Some teachers think that overkilling with consequences will scare students into behaving well. This may be true if your consequences are especially scary, but your students will hate you for it. Your classroom will be an uncomfortable place.
Uncomfortable environments are not the best settings for learning.
Instead of trying to scare your students with outrageous consequences, try to make reasonable ones instead. Make sure the punishment matches the severity of the misbehavior.
Unfair consequences will result in a loss of respect from your students.
