My teaching "hate" list last week got a lot of attention. It was one of my most viewed and "liked" posts so far (ironic?). Despite all of the popularity of that negative one, I am going to go positive this week. So here is a list of things that I love about the teaching profession:
*You feel like you are doing good. Hopefully you realize the positive impact that you are having on students, even the ones that don't tell you that you are.
*You are respected. Despite popular belief, in my experience teachers are respected by the public.
*Job security. It's not something that everyone can and/or wants to do. You can almost always find a teaching job, especially if you aren't too picky about the location.
*Young people are fun. Some people may disagree with this, but young people are often more fun than old people. No offense, old people, but most of you are way too stressed out and serious.
*You get to be in charge. Some people like this more than others. I'm a fan.
*I get to do math all day. No wonder my days go by so fast. Probably one of the reasons that I feel like I am in my twenties instead of forties.
*Vacation time. Duh.
Feel free to post comments about things that you love about teaching that I didn't list! I'd love to see them.
